Welcome to our home

At The Dogmother Academy we aim to support dog owners and their dogs in the adventure of a lifetime. Because living with another being, whether human, canine or other, is an incredible adventure but it's full of ups and downs.

We believe in an holistic approach to helping our dogs navigate our world, we use the latest up to date scientific methods in our training, and we treat every dog as an individual being.

Welcome to our home!

In person services

Does your dog struggle to walk nicely on a lead? Does your dog get distracted by anything and everything out and about and doesn't come when called? Do they take play a little too far? Or maybe you're going away on holidays and need someone to look after your dog while you're away. Here you'll find some of our in person services.

Walk & Train

If you struggle when walking your dog, whether because they pull on the lead, have no recall or are reactive, we can help you improve your walks

Online Education

If you are thinking of getting a dog, it's important to do your homework. This means making sure that you have room in your life to have a dog and choosing with your mind rather your heart when it comes to the more adequate dog for you.

To help you, we developed a series of online courses. Check them out.

Am I really ready to have a dog?

Owning a dog can be the best or the worse experience of your life. Therefore, it's a decision that should be pondered, and there are many factors to consider.

How to choose the right dog for you

Will the breed of your dreams be the maker of nightmares? Will that puppy drive you mad? Choosing the breed and age that fits your situation is essencial.

Puppy socialisation

8-12 weeks

Puppies have a very small window of socialisation, so it's important to focus on the experiences we can offer them before they are fully vaccinated.

XL Bully Training

At The Dogmother Academy, we love bullies of all shapes and sizes, and we believe that no dog should pay the ultimate price for having been born a breed that someone in an office decided was unwelcome.

Unfortunately, we are not in a decision making position and the XL Bully ban is being enforced in Scotland from June 2024. This will happen in two fases and, currently, owners of XL Bully type dogs are already required to walk their dogs on a muzzle and short lead.

If you are struggling with your XL Bully's training, whether that's muzzle training or lead walking, our you'd just like some general help with your dog, do get in touch.

Podcast

Soon you'll be able to listen to our podcast, where we give you bitesize tips and tricks for a more harmonious life with your canine best friend.

Are you struggling with your dog? Get in touch, we'd love to help you!
